This George II period bureau bookcase is an 18th century oak piece finished in a dark brown colour. The upper section has two glazed doors with wooden framing, while the lower body incorporates a slant front slope above four graduated drawers fitted with brass drop handles. The entire cabinet stands on bracket feet and includes moulded cornicing along the top edge. Measuring 197 cm high, 99 cm wide and 55 cm deep, the furniture item provides practical storage and a dedicated writing surface. Such a case piece suits placement in a study, home office or traditional living space where antique timber furnishings are used for organization and display.

A George II bureau bookcase is a dual-purpose piece of mid-18th-century furniture featuring a slant-front writing desk surmounted by a vertical glazed or panelled cabinet designed for storing books and documents.

These pieces were constructed primarily from solid English oak, incorporating hand-cut dovetail joints, cast brass handles, brass escutcheons, and clear glass panes held within molded timber glazing bars.

Authentic period examples display hand-planed timber surfaces, thick irregular dovetail joints, hand-sawn oak drawer linings, and natural age-related wear around working keyholes, drop handles, and support lopers.

Position the piece against a neutral wall in a study or living area, balancing the dark timber tones with modern sculptural ceramics or tailored lighting to create visual contrast.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a beeswax paste once annually, maintaining stable humidity levels away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement or splitting.
