Antique Irish Pewter Church Flagon by John Heaney of Dublin, 1763 - 1807.

Description:

Irish Half-gallon capacity, of typical Dublin 'Beefeater' type, with a bold swan's neck handle, double-dome lid, reeded spout and reeded chairback thumbpiece, by John Heaney of Dublin who worked 1763 - 1807. Good makers hallmarks to the base.

These flagon were for communion use in Churches.

Literature: See D. Hall, Types of Irish Pewter, In association with the National Museum of Ireland (2005), pp. 23 - 24, for further illustrated examples.

Condition:

Excellent condition with a polished silver grey finish and some small traces of light oxide.

Repairs: There are no repairs that I could detect.

Size:

Height to top of thumbpiece: 11.50 in (29.50cm).

Base diameter: 7.25in (18.4cm).

Capacity: Approximately 1/2 gallon .

Cotterell: Old Pewter: Its Makers and Marks - OP2242.
