Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), encompassing diverse revival styles and an increased use of lighter ornamental woods like satin birch and satinwood during the later periods.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised native and imported hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, oak, and satin birch, often paired with secondary pine or deal for drawer linings and internal framing.

Authenticity is assessed through hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, original brass or wooden hardware, and period-appropriate backboards and drawer construction.

Positioning a period timber piece within a neutral, minimalist room creates a striking focal point, adding warmth, texture, and historical contrast to modern decor schemes.

Maintain timber condition by keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying high-quality beeswax to nourish the wood.
