Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Grand Regency sideboard comes in a dark brown figured mahogany timber with a smooth polished finish and brass hardware. The construction incorporates a raised gallery shelf with a shaped central peak, shaped scroll shelf supports, moulded edges to the top, panelled cupboard doors, fluted side columns with turned collars, and a solid plinth base. A small round knob and a keyhole are visible on the right door. Measuring 123.5 cm high, 106.5 cm wide and 40.5 cm deep, this compact storage unit occupies a modest footprint. Practical storage configurations inside include two adjustable shelves hidden behind the pair of cupboard doors, accompanied by a single long drawer situated beneath the main top surface. The piece functions effectively in a dining room or living space for storing tableware, linens, or books, while the upper gallery offers a surface for displaying decorative items. Maintenance involves regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional polishing to preserve the wood grain.

FAQs

Regency sideboards are characterised by their classical architectural proportions, clean geometric lines, and the extensive use of high-quality mahogany veneers. Originating in the early 19th century, these pieces often incorporate decorative columns, carved scroll brackets, and functional storage arrangements tailored for formal dining rooms.

Primary components typically feature solid mahogany or mahogany veneers applied over stable softwood frames such as pine or oak. Decorative accents and secondary hardware, including escutcheons and door pulls, were generally crafted from solid cast brass.

Authentic pieces exhibit early 19th-century construction techniques, such as hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass locks, and natural patination on the timber. Architectural features like turned flanking columns and gallery shelves with S-scroll supports are typical indicators of the style.

A Regency sideboard can serve as a focal point when contrasted against contemporary neutral walls or modern artwork. Positioning contemporary ceramic lamps or minimalist decorative objects on the surface highlights the rich mahogany grain while bridging historical and modern aesthetics.

Regular care involves dusting with a clean microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish along the grain to preserve the timber finish. Protect the wood surface from liquid spills, heat, and direct sunlight to prevent bleaching or veneer lift.
