FAQs

Continental brass wine coolers and cisterns date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, often crafted in workshops across France, the Netherlands, and Germany for use in grand dining rooms.

These pieces were typically formed from heavy sheet brass or cast brass, featuring hand-beaten repousse decoration, applied cast handles such as lion masks, and soldered seams.

Authentic period pieces display genuine verdigris oxidation, heavy gauge metal, hand-finished detailing, dovetail or soldered base construction, and natural age-related wear rather than uniform factory finishing.

It can be repurposed as a floor-standing plant cachepot, a fireside log holder, or displayed on a large side table to introduce metallic texture and historical contrast to a contemporary space.

Preserve the natural patina by avoiding harsh chemical polishes; instead, gently dust with a soft dry cloth and keep the metal away from excessive moisture to prevent active corrosion.
