Italian maiolica is a type of tin-glazed earthenware that reached its artistic peak during the Renaissance in the 15th and 16th centuries, with later revivals in the 19th century reproducing traditional styles and techniques.

Maiolica pieces are constructed from local clay, fired into a biscuit form, coated with an opaque white tin glaze, and hand-painted with metallic oxide pigments before a final glaze firing.

Authenticity is determined by examining the body paste, glaze crazing, brushwork precision, pigment characteristics under magnification, and any historical markings or footrim wear consistent with age.

These decorative plates can be mounted on walls as focal art pieces, displayed upright on dedicated plate stands within a cabinet, or styled on a surface using a minimalist mount to highlight the historical artwork.

Antique ceramics should be kept away from direct sunlight, handled with clean hands to prevent oil transfer, kept in stable humidity conditions, and gently dusted with a soft dry cloth without using liquid cleaners.
