Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of 19th-century Gustavian style chests of drawers is constructed from painted pine and accented with brass hardware. The commodes are finished in pale grey with contrasting blue Greek key decoration across the top drawers, complemented by circular brass ring handles and keyhole escutcheons. Each piece stands on tapering fluted legs, displaying hand-carved fluting and subtle distressing to the painted surfaces that indicates age. Measuring 76 cm high, 114 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, these low chests provide practical surface display and enclosed storage. They suit placement in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway as bedside tables or accent storage furniture.

FAQs

Originating in late 18th-century Sweden under King Gustav III, Gustavian furniture adapts French Neoclassicism into a restrained Nordic aesthetic featuring pale painted finishes, fluted legs, and understated classical motifs like Greek key borders.

These pieces are typically constructed from native softwoods such as pine or fir, finished with light-coloured milk or oil paints in shades of grey, blue, or cream, and fitted with cast brass hardware.

Authentic period examples often feature hand-carved joinery, visible peg construction, hand-planed drawer linings, natural layered paint wear near edges and handles, and original brass fittings.

A pair of painted commodes functions effectively as oversized bedside tables in a principal bedroom or positioned symmetrically on either side of a doorway or fireplace in a living space.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, keep the furniture away from direct heat sources to prevent wood movement, and avoid chemical solvents that could strip or damage historic paint layers.
