FAQs

The Meiji period (1868-1912) marked a monumental era of modernisation and artistic exchange, where traditional swordsmithing techniques were successfully adapted to create intricate decorative metalwork and bronze sculptures for international exhibitions.

These pieces were typically cast in bronze or brass alloys, often utilising complex mixed-metal inlay techniques known as iro-gane, which incorporated copper, silver, and gold to create contrasting tones and detailed pictorial depth.

Authenticity is generally determined by the presence of traditional casting marks, chisel work quality, natural oxidisation patterns, and the sophisticated use of mixed-metal highlights rather than surface paint.

An antique bronze plaque can be displayed on a dedicated stand or mounted on a neutral wall to serve as a striking focal point, pairing well with minimalist architectural elements to highlight its artisanal texture.

Bronze should be kept away from direct sunlight and high humidity, dusted gently with a soft dry cloth, and left unpolished to preserve the natural historical patina.
