Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cast iron garden urns gained widespread popularity during the 19th century, particularly within Victorian estates and landscaped parks. Mass-production casting techniques allowed intricate classical motifs, previously hand-carved in stone, to be reproduced efficiently for outdoor decoration.

These planters were created using sand-casting techniques, where molten iron was poured into sand moulds impressed with decorative patterns. The resulting pieces were cast in sections or single heavy forms, then finished with seam grinding and protective paint layers.

Authentic cast iron urns feature substantial weight, visible casting seam lines, and natural surface oxidisation or layered paint wear accumulated over decades. Unlike modern cast aluminium reproductions, genuine iron retains significant mass and develops characteristic surface pitting.

In contemporary interiors and gardens, cast iron urns are frequently positioned in pairs beside entrance doorways, along terrace pathways, or inside conservatories. They function as sculptural architectural accents when empty or as structured containers for evergreen foliage.

To preserve cast iron, ensure internal drainage holes remain clear of debris to prevent standing water from accelerating rust. Surface oxidisation can be stabilized using sealant or wax, or gently brushed down and painted with a rust-inhibiting exterior metal coating.
