To 1840. Impressed numbers on the back.

Obviously with liverpool being a large port in the 18thcentury it is transfer decorated with a fully rigged sailing ship.

Herculaneum Pottery was established in Toxteth, Liverpool, in the late eighteenth century. It produced creamware and transfer-printed earthenware tailored for domestic use and export markets, frequently featuring maritime motifs and historical scenes.

These ceramics were crafted from an earthenware clay body covered with a pale lead glaze, known as creamware. Decorative motifs were applied by transferring engraved copper-plate designs using ceramic ink prior to the final firing.

Authentic pieces exhibit characteristics such as subtle glaze crazing, slight irregularities in the transfer application, impressed maker marks or painter numbers on the reverse, and distinct period rim shapes like scalloped edges.
