Size: 3ft 7in x 2ft 10in (110 x 87cm).

Antique Uzbek Bokhara suzani of small size in prayer format..

Circa 1900/20.

Suzani are silk embroideries that have been woven in Uzbekistan for many hundreds of years, they are treasured family items woven by the ladies of a family usually to celebrate a wedding. They are then used to decorate the inside of the Yurt. They are embroidered in silk on strips of cotton which are then joined together to make the complete item. The suzani is then backed with fine cotton to give it strength and body.

This small example is of prayer format with a plain field surrounded with a flowering vine. The simple design creates a very gentle and relaxing feel.

The condition is excellent with only very slight wear and no repairs, the suzani has a cotton backing that can be seen in the images. There are a few historic stains to the plain field.

The suzani is ready for display.
