Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

French commodes are traditionally low chests of drawers characterised by substantial craftsmanship, decorative carvings, and functional storage capacity developed primarily for domestic chambers.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid regional hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or chestnut, frequently complemented by hand-forged brass or bronze hardware.

Authenticity is determined by traditional joinery methods such as hand-cut dovetails, tool marks on secondary timbers, patination consistent with age, and period-appropriate metalwork.

Pair the piece with neutral walls and minimalist modern lighting to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and clean lines.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood without damaging the historic finish.
