Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Scroll back settees and couches gained prominence during the Victorian period, evolving from earlier neoclassical and rococo revival designs that favoured asymmetrical, sweeping lines and comfortable padded seating for drawing rooms and boudoirs.

These pieces typically feature solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or beech for the carved frame, paired with traditional hand-tied coil spring upholstery, horsehair or wool stuffing, and deep button tufting secured with brass tacks.

Authentication involves examining the joinery for hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, inspecting the underside for hand-forged or early machine-made fixings, checking the wear patterns on the wood, and identifying period-appropriate textiles and tacking.

A scroll back settee works effectively as a statement piece in a hallway, at the foot of a bed, or paired with contemporary minimalist furniture to create a striking contrast between historical craftsmanship and clean modern lines.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight to prevent textile fading and wood drying, using a soft brush attachment for regular dusting, and consulting a professional restorer for structural repairs or deep cleaning.
