Beautiful Japanese Meiji (early 20thc) Bronze Okimono, Holy Kannon Bodhisattva, Takamura Koun

Fine Meiji (early 20thC) bronze statue of the Holy Kannon Bodhisattva by Takamura Koun (1852-1934). A fine casting with nice detail. The Bodhisattva of mercy and compassion is elegantly sculpted and stands on a circular base, holding in her left hand a delicate lotus bud stalk, her hair piled into a tall topknot and adorned with the hokan (jewelled crown). She is wearing a johaku (decorative scarf) draped diagonally from her left shoulder, spreading out across the right side of her abdomen, the folds of the garment softly rendered. The reverse of the figure is signed Takamura Koun. Certificate of authenticity and box. 33cm (13in) high by 12cm (5in) diameter (base), weight 1.65kg.
 
Kannon, the bodhisattva of compassion, is one of the most popular and frequently depicted deities in Japanese Buddhism. Kannon grants deliverance from suffering to anyone who calls upon his name.
