127 X 199cm Antique 'eagle' Kazak Rug

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: James Cohen Antique Carpets

Woven in Armenia near the border with Azerbaidjan these bold, colourful rugs are very popular. The exploding medallions, often referred to as either ''Sunburst'' or ''Eagles, are graphic, dynamic and exciting. This beautiful example has the blood red field needed to perfectly set off the animated medallions and contrast with greens, yellows and blue tones. Finely woven and an early piece- late 19th century- it would be very expensive in original condition but has sadly some inexpert repairs which brings the value down. Still very much useable for the floor or could be a great display piece.
