This large and heavy dark bronze African Benin tribal pot from 1890 functions as a decorative vessel and container in the West African style. The cast piece displays relief human figures, twin side handles shaped as figural snakes, and geometric surface patterning, alongside an incomplete rim formation and several casting holes from the lost wax method. Standing upon a dark wooden cabinet, the dark bronze surface exhibits an original patina with visible metallic highlights and greenish corrosion around the hardware. The item measures 31 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 24 cm deep. Placed atop a sideboard in a gentleman's library or similar reception room, the container brings historical presence to an interior surface. The dark timber cabinet beneath features raised rectangular drawer fronts, decorative mouldings, and small metal ring pulls with greenish verdigris accents, set against a plain neutral backdrop. Collectors position this traditional tribal work as a statement display object within a domestic study or living space.

Benin bronze vessels originate from the Kingdom of Benin in West Africa, renowned for lost-wax casting techniques developed over centuries primarily for royal, courtly, and ritual use.

These items were crafted using the lost-wax casting technique, utilizing copper alloy or bronze to form complex sculptural reliefs, integrated handles, and patterned surfaces.

Authentic pieces feature detailed relief human or animal figures, traditional geometric background engravings, visible lost-wax casting seams, and aged surface patination.

Display the pot as a standalone sculptural object on a wooden sideboard, console, or within a curated cabinet to add historical narrative and rich metal texture.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth or soft bristle brush. Avoid water, liquid polishes, or harsh abrasives to safeguard the natural oxidisation and original surface patina.
