During the 18th century, copper was widely utilised for domestic kitchenware due to its excellent thermal conductivity and malleability. Pots with side handles were frequently designed for brewing coffee or chocolate over open hearths or specialized stoves before the advent of modern kitchen ranges.

Authentic pieces from this period were typically hand-beaten from sheet copper, featuring dovetailed or brazed seams, riveted handle mounts, and turned wooden grips made from woods such as fruitwood or ebony to insulate against heat.

Authentication relies on observing hand-hammered surface irregularities, dovetailed base construction, early rivet types, and the natural oxidisation and patina accumulated over centuries of age.

Such pieces function effectively as decorative objects in rustic, traditional, or eclectic schemes, often displayed on open shelving, mantelsides, or within kitchen dressers to introduce warmth and historical texture.

Preservation requires keeping the metal in a dry environment to prevent active corrosion and lightly dusting with a soft cloth. Excessive polishing should be avoided to retain the historical patina.
