Description

David Woodlock 1842-1929.Figure,landscape and garden painter.Born in Ireland.Lived Liverpool,Sheffield and Leamington,Warwick’s.He was a key figure in the development of a distinct school of Liverpool painters.He produced some truly beautiful cottage scenes and views of Venice. He was a founder member and later President of the Liver Sketching Club and also a member of the Liverpool Academy of Arts.He developed an individualistic style of watercolour painting where the bleeding together of colours often produced dramatic results.Exhibited 17 works at the RA but principally at the Walker Art Gallery,Liverpool where he showed 118 works. ‘Knitting outside the Cottage’ , signed watercolour,image size 34x24cms , framed size 52x42 cms;original giltwood and plaster frame.
