A Victorian brass planter, often referred to as a jardiniere or cachepot, is a decorative metal vessel used to hold potted plants during the 19th century, valued for its ornate craftsmanship and metallic sheen.

These pieces were typically crafted from sheet brass, often utilizing spinning, stamping, or hand-beating techniques, frequently featuring cast brass feet and handles affixed by rivets or solder.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit heavy gauge metal, period-appropriate fasteners like hand-cut screws or old rivets, natural patination, and traditional decorative motifs such as paw feet or lion mask ring handles.

It can be integrated as a contrasting metallic accent on a wooden console or mantelpiece, used to house trailing houseplants, or simply displayed empty as a sculptural centrepiece.

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical abrasives or commercial metal polishes that strip the historical patina, preserving the aged surface character.
