ANDRE DELFAU oil painting.
A large French cubist oil on canvas depicting nude girls in a Paris street. Circa 1950s. Delfau, born 1914 painted scene sets and costumes for the Opera in Paris and also worked in India, Burma and Japan. This beautiful example has not been restored. This work probably depicts a scene of girls from a Paris brothel. A most unusual painting.

André Delfau specialised in painting dance and the theatre and also produced a number of stage sets and costumes for the Opéra in Paris and the Théâtre de l’Odéon. He also worked in Morocco, India, Burma and Japan.
His dancing, acrobatic, cavorting Harlequins are developed in arabesque movements.
