FAQs

Georgian furniture spans the reigns of the first four King Georges from 1714 to 1830, a period defined by neoclassical influences, refined proportions, and the growing prominence of mahogany imported from the colonies.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised solid mahogany and pine secondary woods, complemented by cast brass handles, escutcheons, and occasionally fine veneers or inlay work.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, handmade screws, natural oxidisation in concealed areas, and timber shrinkage consistent with age rather than machine-made uniformity.

Pairing historical timber pieces with modern minimalist seating or abstract artwork creates a balanced focal point that highlights the rich grain and craftsmanship of the antique.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying a traditional beeswax polish sparingly to nourish the timber without building up excess residue.
