FAQs

The sideboard evolved during the late 18th century in Britain, transitioning from side tables with separate pedestals into unified cabinet furniture designed by master craftsmen like Thomas Sheraton and George Hepplewhite for formal dining rooms.

Authentic period pieces were constructed predominantly from solid mahogany or fine veneers over secondary woods like pine or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and intricate inlay or crossbanding.

Authentication involves examining timber ageing, interior drawer construction with hand-cut dovetails, tool marks, original or period-correct brass handles, and the presence of shrinkage cracks consistent with seasoned hardwoods.

Pair the traditional warm tones of the timber with contemporary minimalist lighting, abstract art hung above, and understated ceramic objects to create a balanced, curated aesthetic.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the polished finish.
