Description

Stunning early 20th century large African Ashanti King Statue,c1900. Cast in the traditional lost wax process this is a large and impressive piece standing at 68cm tall and weighing 6.5kg. The statue is in 2 pieces with the head detaching from the body and both sections are very heavy. It stands well and will display well in a modern or traditional setting. Overall condition is good and the bronze has taken on great colour/patina following many years of handling. Most West African metal sculptures were created using the lost-wax (cire perdue) casting technique using brass or bronze, resulting in unique hollow-cast forms with detailed hand-carved wax surface decoration prior to casting.
