Antique Turkmen Dali Kilim, Very Fine Weave, Banded Design, Circa 1880.

19th century
Description

Size: 10ft 0in x 4ft 4in (305 x 133cm).

Antique Turkmen 'dali' Kilim of very fine weave.

Circa 1880.

This is a scarce example of a fine Turkmen kilim, known as 'dali', this translates to fabric or cloth. Older examples such as this have very fine weave, are paper thin and have a muted soft colour palette; later examples are of coarser weave with much heavier weight and bright clear colours. Woven on a simple narrow loom, these kilims are usually narrow in width and of long length. These would make a great cover for furniture or a throw to go over a bed.

Excellent condition, very slight wear.

Stock Number: DS-0323.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Turkmen Dali kilims are flat-woven wool textiles traditionally created by nomadic tribes in Central Asia, characterised by intricate horizontal banded patterns and geometric motifs.

Authentic kilims are hand-woven using hand-spun wool yarns on a vertical loom, utilising flatweave tapestry techniques where warp strands form the structural foundation.

Authentic 19th-century examples display natural vegetable dyes, slight variations in weave density, soft patination to the wool, and traditional tribal motifs without synthetic colour bleeding.

Flatweave runners bring texture and warmth to wooden hallways, corridors, or neutral living spaces, pairing effectively with modern minimal or classic timber furnishings.

Vacuum gently using a suction-only attachment without a rotating brush, address spills immediately with cold water and clean cloth blotting, and arrange professional dry cleaning for delicate antique wool.
