This bed fits a standard UK single size mattress (3ft” wide x 6ft 3” long) and the mattress can be either situated on the wooden slats, or on a sprung box base if preferred – the beds are supplied with wooden slats only. The design of the bed takes is influenced from the Arts & Crafts period, with a floral carved sectional top rail, floral carved twin inset head panels below, flanked by elegant twist posts terminating on block legs. The design is repeated on the footboards. The pair of single beds retains its original “Vono” cast angle iron brackets, which are used to support the steel angle irons. The angle irons are united with four bolts, to secure the bed frame.
They dismantle for easy transportation. The wooden slats separate into two sections and we can supply good quality new mattresses if required.
Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian Ars & Crafts carved solid oak pair of single beds, circa 1890, in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and bed frames but nothing significant considering the age of them. The pair of single beds has been cleaned and wax-polished in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are of an excellent standard. This pair of oak Arts & Crafts single beds are solid in joint and is ready to use.
