Size: 3ft 8in x 2ft 9in (111 x 85cm).
Antique Turkmen prayer rug, very early example with archaic design.
Circa 1850 or earlier.
An outstand and rare example of a Turkmen prayer rug, probably woven by the Ersari sub group; the Kizil Ayak in Northern Afghanistan or Southern Turkmenistan, during the 1st half of the 19th century. The drawing of the rug has a very original feel with a pure archaic charm. From research there are no published rugs of similar form or age, this is probably one of the earliest recorded prayer rugs of this type.
The rug is in fair condition, with areas of heavy wear due to actual use for prayer, the rug is in un-touched original condition.
The rug would make an outstanding display as a wall hanging.
