Description

This wonderful tribal carpet was woven by the Yomut Turkoman tribe of Central Asia and was originally used as a tent hanging. Woven in mixed flatweave techniques towards the end of the 19th century, it has fine wool quality and wonderful subtle dyes. The field is composed of an elegant lattice and latchhooks design which is intricately woven and matched by its narrow borders. Note the long kilim ends. At the top end, it has retained its wool hanging straps. Note also the use of undyed cotton in the details. This piece has survived in excellent condition. Professionally cleaned in our workshop.
