A fine quality early 18th Century Walnut Bureau of small proportions having superb colour and originality. A rare feature is the fluted canted corners which lighten the appearance of the piece. Retaining the original pierced brass handles and all but one of the original locks. Remarkably the front two feet are original with great skin and patination, the back two replaced many years ago. The interior is especially good having projecting figured Walnut Columns almost in the full round either side of the central door. fitted with pigeon holes with shaped frieze and small drawers retaining the original brass knobs. The drawer linings made in Oak are in good clean original condition throughout.
Fitted with working keys for the fall and interior door.
It is historically interesting to note the faded original label pinned to the underneath of the piece which probably has the name and address of the customer the Bureau was made for written in ink. Circa 1730
