Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pirot and Sarkoy kilims originated in the Balkan peninsula, particularly around southeastern Serbia and Western Thrace during the Ottoman period. Crafted primarily by skilled women weavers, these flat-weave textiles were produced for domestic use, trade, and export, featuring distinct geometric motifs passed down through generations.

Traditional kilims are hand-woven using pure hand-spun wool for both the warp and weft, often coloured with natural vegetable dyes. The weaving process utilises a slit-weave flat technique, where distinct colour blocks create small vertical gaps along pattern boundaries, resulting in a lightweight yet durable double-sided structure.

Authentic pieces exhibit slight natural colour variations known as abrash, resulting from hand-dyed wool batches. They feature flat-woven construction without pile, clear geometric medallion motifs, and identical pattern visibility on both the front and reverse sides due to the slit-weave technique.

A large terracotta kilim serves as an anchor in a living room or dining area, grounding contemporary neutral furniture with pattern and warm colour. Designers frequently pair flat-weave textiles with natural materials like timber, leather, and linen to accentuate textural contrast.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating beater bar to avoid pulling the woven wool fibres. Address spills immediately by blotting with a clean cloth, and employ professional rug cleaners experienced in antique flat-weave textiles for deep cleaning.
