Massive 1889 Victorian Copper Saucepan Made By Elkington And Co For The Red Star Shipping Line

Massive copper pan made by one of the top silver smiths of the 19th century, Elkington and Co. Shown here with a normal size pan and kettle to give an idea of the scale of the thing! Elkington invented a method to apply a nickel lining to copper cookware and as a result they supplied most of the copper cookware as well as the silverware for the top hotels and passenger shipping lines of the 19th and early 20th centuries. This pan is stamped with the maker''s name, a number which is the reference number found in the company brochure and it is stamped Red Star Line and Bakers. It is very heavy at 5kg and it is very large at 12'' wide and 7'' tall. This pan has been used of course and so it does carry dents and scratches from use. It has also has a leak so cannot be used for cooking without being repaired. The Red Star Line ran mostly from Antwerp, Southampton, Liverpool, Philadelphia and New York and is known to have carried many famous people, including several trips by Albert Einstein,...
