Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The pedestal desk evolved during the eighteenth century and became a staple of nineteenth-century British offices and libraries. Designed with two supporting columns of drawers beneath a wide writing surface, these pieces offered substantial storage and workspace for professionals during the Victorian expansion.

High-grade native woods such as oak, mahogany, and walnut are most common, often featuring hand-carved decorative trim. The writing surface typically incorporates a leather insert, known as a skiver, embossed with blind or gilt tooling.

Authentic pieces by Druce & Co of London often feature stamped metal makers plates or impressions on drawer linings and lock plates. Examination of dovetail joints, solid oak drawer linings, and Period-accurate hardware also helps verify nineteenth-century construction.

A carved oak pedestal desk serves as an anchor piece in a dedicated home office or study. Contrast its traditional wood tones and carved detailing with minimalist contemporary desk lamps, neutral wall tones, or modern leather seating.

Keep the wood surfaces nourished by applying a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain, avoiding aggressive chemical cleaners. The leather writing insert requires periodic treating with specialised leather cream to prevent drying and cracking.
