In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Reverse glass painting is an art form where pigment is applied directly onto the underside of a glass sheet, intended to be viewed from the unpainted front. Popular throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries, these works frequently featured genre scenes, classical subjects, and portraits.

Artists painted details in reverse sequence, starting with fine foreground lines and highlights before building up background colours behind them. The completed glass panel was then backed for protection and mounted into a carved or moulded timber frame.

Authentic Georgian examples typically display period-correct hand-drawn or float glass with subtle visual distortions, age-appropriate wear to the gilding, and fine paint layering. Natural signs of age, such as slight paint contraction or oxidisation along the edges, are common indicators.

These compact framed artworks function well as focal points within a curated gallery wall or styled on a sideboard alongside ceramic accents. The contrast between traditional glass craftsmanship and contemporary furnishings introduces depth and texture to a room scheme.

Clean the front glass gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth without applying liquid solvents that could seep into the frame rebates. Position the picture away from direct sunlight, damp environments, and radiator heat to prevent the delicate paint film from lifting.
