Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

This nineteenth-century neoclassical sculpture depicts the classical Dancing Faun of Pompeii in a contrapposto pose. Cast in plaster with a dark brown bronze-patina finish, the figure holds crotala cymbals in each hand while one foot rests on a scabellum pedal atop a stepped base, and a fig-leaf cover conceals the waist. Visible details include distinct muscular definition across the torso, curly hair, and naturalistic wear and surface abrasions across the dark brown body. Measuring 60 cm high, 31 cm wide, and 20 cm deep, the piece sits well on a bookshelf within a gentleman's library, study, or living room to add classic sculptural interest to a tabletop or display surface.
