FAQs

Early 20th-century landscape painting often combined traditional academic realism with impressionistic brushwork, focusing on natural light, atmospheric conditions, and seasonal changes such as autumn foliage.

These pieces typically consist of oil paint applied to stretched woven canvas, housed within moulded plaster-on-wood or carved wooden frames, frequently finished with gilding.

Authenticity is assessed by examining canvas ageing, stretcher bar construction, craquelure patterns in the oil paint, artist signatures, and the materials used in the frame backing.

An antique landscape provides a focal point above a mantelpiece or on a dark-accented wall, offering a visual counterpoint to clean-lined modern furniture.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight, maintain stable humidity and temperature levels, and clean the canvas gently with a soft, dry brush without using chemical solvents.
