Antique Quality Georgian C1800 Yew & Mahogany Bureau Bookcase

19th century
Description

Antique quality Georgian C1800 yew, burr yew and mahogany housekeeper's bureau cupboard bookcase. Sometimes known as an estate cupboard. A wonderful rare quality period piece.

Solid and strong, with no loose joints. Full of age, character and charm. Original handles and patina.

Veneer on softwood front and softwood sides.

Would look great in the right location! Key to cupboard door and LH internal drawer of the cupboard only. The drawers slide freely.

Overall maximum dimensions: 99cmW x 56cmD (88cmD with the writing surface down) x 210cmH (separates into two halves for transport). Writing surface 89cmW x 60cmD x 79cm high

In good antique condition with historic knocks, marks, cracks, scratches, wear, imperfections, repairs and alterations, as is to be expected with functional antique furniture. There are some slightly crude historic old repairs and minor losses to the cornice. There are some minor non-structural shrinkage gaps around the decorative parquetry panels and minor cracking to the sides. Some historic extinct woodworm holes that have been treated for good measure.

Please note that this item is large and heavy. Please make sure before buying that it will fit in and can be maneuvered into the room that it is intended for. The customer will need to provide 1 strong able-bodied person(s) for our driver to assist with carrying.

Stock No. 8334.

30-day, no-quibble, money-back guarantee.

Competitive UK and overseas door to door shipping.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
