Antique Early 19th Century Mahogany Bombe Bureau C1840 Wdb6210/4.1

Superb 19th century mahogany bombe bureau and dating from around 1830-40. The fall front with original gilt mount and working key opens to reveal a stunning interior with a central door which is inlaid with fruitwood stringing and opens to reveal a small drawer. To either side there is a secret drawer with column fronts of maple and ebony with lovely gilt mounts. There is a shaped open compartment above a small drawer and two further stepped drawers with open compartment above. All the drawers are oak lined with inlaid stringing and small brass knob handles. The base of the stepped interior has a lovely deep band of ebony and maple running the length of the interior. To the front of the central door there is a secret well and the desk has a leather writing surface.

The fall front sits above a deep frieze with a small squared loper drawer to each side and a deep band of carved moulding separates the bureau from the bombe chest which has three long draers all of which are oak lined and with original gilt handles and escutcheons. It stands on carved claw and ball feet joined by a shaped frieze.

The top bureau removes from the base for ease of transporting.

This is a superb bureau of quality and in very good condition with a lovely deep colour, grain and patination to the mahogany oozing all the charm and character of the period.
