A rustic scene of a harvest taking place next to the River Kennet in Berkshire by Henry Parker. Several figures can be seen working in the field next to a hay cart between the church and river. The Kennet is the largest tributary of the Thames and runs through the North Wessex Downs. It begins at Avebury, flowing through Marlborough, Hungerford and Newbury before joining the Thames at Reading.
 
 
Henry Parker was born in the St Pancras area of London on 27 June, 1860 and was christened Henry Deacon Hillier (or Hillyer) Parker. His parents were Thomas, a draughtsman and lithographer and Lucy Parker. The family lived in Gillies Street, St Pancras.
