Antique Ersari Beshir Turkmen torba with ikat design.
Circa 1890.
Torba are shallow wall bags used mainly in tents or yurts for the storage of personal belongings, they were also used to decorate the sides of a camel in a wedding procession. Often only the piled face survives and the plain weave backs have been removed.
This example has a variant of the well known ikat design, superb colour throughout including a good clear yellow.
The torba is in excellent condition with very slight even wear and good pile.
Hand washed and ready for display.
