Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A kneehole desk is an 18th-century writing table featuring a central recessed cupboard or open space flanked by small drawers on either side. Popularised during the Georgian era, these versatile pieces served both as study desks and dressing tables.

Typically constructed from solid mahogany or walnut veneers, 18th-century kneehole desks feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, and solid brass drop handles with keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-sawn timber marks, irregular dovetail joints, hand-forged iron nails or wooden pegs, and natural age-related wear around the handles and bracket feet.

A mahogany kneehole desk works well as a compact home office workstation, a hallway console table, or a bedroom vanity. Combine it with contemporary brass lighting, neutral wall shades, and modern upholstery to balance the dark timber tones.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking and fading. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the protective patination.
