Antique Ushak Runner

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Farnham Antique Carpets

Amazing green antique Ushak runner! Woven around 1910-1915, we love the green dyes and pink border used to create this antique runner, which has an almost contemporary feel! The change in the green dye at the top of the runner, is due to the weaver using a different batch of wool creating this ''Abrash'' the term for dye change.  It adds lots of character to this beautiful piece, and coming in good all over condition, it is ready to be used on the floor to brighten a space!

Ushak runners, carpets and rugs or Oushak depending on the spelling preference, were woven in Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire.  Their designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and soft dyes are not uncommon.  Often younger Ushak''s woven around 1920-30 will be rich red in colour and use bolder geometric designs, as dyes and designs changed over the years.
