In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian parlour sofas were prominent during the 19th century, designed specifically for formal reception rooms where guests were entertained. These pieces often reflected shifting design revivals, moving from heavy classical influences to lighter, more decorative marquetry styles towards the end of the period.

Traditional construction typically involved dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut for the exposed frame. Joinery often utilised mortise and tenon techniques, while upholstery foundations consisted of hand-tied coil springs, horsehair stuffing, and durable textiles.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-carved details, and natural material aging such as patina on the wood and horsehair or straw stuffing in older upholstery layers. Machine screws, modern particle board cores, and uniform factory tooling generally indicate later reproductions.

Integrating an antique sofa into a contemporary space works well by pairing its classic woodwork and patterned upholstery against neutral walls and minimalist modern lighting. This juxtaposition highlights the historical craftsmanship without overwhelming the room.

Preservation requires keeping wooden frames away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking and fading. Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth and periodic application of appropriate beeswax maintains the finish without damaging the porous grain.
