The bureau is in excellent working order, boasting book-marked figure walnut front, with a cross-banded walnut border, flanked by fine feather inlay and half-round mouldings. The Georgian bureau retains its original interior of six small string drawers with original brass knobs, below eight shaped pigeonhole slots, as well as a locking central ‘cubby hole’ decorated with burr-walnut door. The fall, which boasts a green leather lining inside, is supported by two pull-out slides, with small brass knobs. Below the fall is a bank of four graduated cross-banded drawers, which are oak lined, hand dovetailed and retain good quality brass swan neck handles and escutcheons. The fall and the drawers also each boast their original working lever locks, with working key. The internal cubby hole door retains its original brass lock with working key too. The Georgian walnut bureau also retains its original backboards and is raised on a moulded plinth, which stands on its original bracket feet, which is nice to see.

Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique English Georgian walnut bureau desk, with a comprehensive interior, circa 1740, displaying a warm colour & patination, in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the top, leading edges, fall, interior and inside of drawers, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The bureau has been cleaned and French polished by hand in our workshop to a professional standard. The interior is complete, with no missing sections, drawers or locks. The hinges to the fall are original and in good condition. The internal and external drawers retain their original oak drawer linings, constructed with traditional hand-dovetail joints and oak drawer bottoms. The drawers close flush to the frame and are decorated with good quality brass swan neck handles and escutcheons. The Georgian walnut bureau stands on its original bracket feet and retains its original backboards. The walnut bureau boasts a stunning colour and patination. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
