Louis XV Chest
These louis xv chest designs combine sweeping serpentine forms and opulent mounts, offering practical storage wrapped in classic continental elegance.
Louis XV Chest
A louis xv chest is fundamentally a continental storage piece, often termed a commode, designed with characteristic serpentine or bombé curves. Buyers searching this phrase look for pieces originating from the eighteenth century or later nineteenth-century revivals.
The versions most commonly met on this page range from walnut and painted wood examples to heavily ornamented revival pieces. These chests serve as substantial focal points in a room while providing deep drawer capacity.
Materials and construction
Cabinetmakers built these pieces using foundational timbers such as walnut, oak, and mahogany, frequently applying decorative veneers like kingwood. Surfaces often featured intricate marquetry patterns alongside painted finishes.
Gilded bronze or ormolu mounts and brass handles decorated the corners, feet, and drawer fronts. Many iterations also incorporated fitted marble tops in shades of white or Sienna.
