What is a piecrust table used for?

How do I identify a Georgian period table?

Period examples from the eighteenth century show hand-carved details rather than machine shaping. Proportions tend to be lighter and more refined in genuine eighteenth-century pieces compared to later reproductions.

What is a birdcage mechanism?

A birdcage is a small wooden cage structure fitted between the tabletop and the central pillar. It allows the top to rotate horizontally and tilt vertically. This sophisticated mechanism appears on finer eighteenth-century tripod tables.

How do I care for antique mahogany?

Keep mahogany tables away from direct sunlight and strong heat sources to prevent the wood from drying out or splitting. Gentle dusting with a dry cloth preserves the finish. Avoid using modern silicone polishes which can build up on old surfaces over time.
