Art Nouveau sculpture emerged in the late 19th century, characterised by organic forms, flowing lines inspired by nature, and allegorical subjects reflecting the philosophies of the period.

These pieces were typically crafted using the lost-wax casting method (cire perdue) in bronze, followed by mercury gilding or electroplating to achieve a brilliant gold-coloured surface finish.

Authenticity is determined by examining foundry marks, artist signatures, the quality of the chased details, the natural ageing of the metal, and the composition of the underlying alloy.

Displaying the piece on a mantelpiece, side table, or dedicated plinth allows it to serve as a sculptural focal point that contrasts effectively with minimalist modern surroundings.

Dusting gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth is recommended. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasives, or water, as these can strip or damage the delicate gilt surface layer.
