FAQs

Nineteenth-century landscape painting typically focuses on naturalism, atmospheric effects, and the picturesque grandeur of the countryside, often capturing specific topographical locations with meticulous brushwork.

These works were traditionally executed using linseed oil-based pigments applied to stretched linen or cotton canvas, often secured within hand-carved and gilded wooden frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the ageing of the canvas and paint layers, inspecting stretcher frames for period-appropriate construction, and checking for artist signatures or historical documentation.

An antique canvas serves as a striking focal point when hung against neutral walls, paired with directional picture lighting to highlight the texture and depth of the oil pigments.

Preservation requires maintaining stable temperature and humidity levels, keeping the artwork away from direct sunlight, and periodically consulting a professional conservator for surface cleaning.
