Antique Persian village rugs are characterised by geometric motifs, stylized floral patterns, and motifs woven from memory rather than formal cartoons, reflecting the unique cultural heritage of specific weaving communities.

These rugs typically feature hand-spun wool pile woven onto a cotton or wool foundation, utilizing hand-knotted techniques and natural dyes derived from plants, roots, and minerals.

Authenticity is identified through irregularities in symmetry and weave, the presence of vegetable dyes with subtle colour variations (abrash), hand-spun wool texture, and traditional wool or cotton foundation warps and wefts.

An antique rug can be integrated into contemporary spaces to add texture, warmth, and history, often layered over larger natural fibre flooring or placed in high-traffic zones to anchor minimalist furniture.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without beater bars, professional hand-washing by specialists in antique textiles, avoiding direct prolonged sunlight, and using breathable rug underlays to prevent slipping and wear.
