Victorian dressing tables often feature intricate wood veneers, pivoting mirrors, and substantial proportions that reflect the craftsmanship and aesthetic preferences of the 19th century.

Cabinet makers typically used dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and satinwood, frequently paired with marble tops, brass hardware, and hand-carved decorative elements.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, original hardware, natural wood ageing, and subtle imperfections indicative of hand-tooling rather than modern machinery.

Blending period furniture with contemporary settings involves placing the antique piece against a neutral wall, balancing its ornate textures with minimalist lighting, and keeping surface accessories uncluttered.

Preserve satinwood surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate natural beeswax polish.
