Victorian dressing tables span the reign of Queen Victoria, showcasing styles that evolved from heavy, dark mahogany pieces with ornate carvings to lighter, aesthetic movement designs with inlaid woodwork and brass hardware.

Cabinet makers predominantly used solid mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, frequently incorporating secondary woods like pine or oak for drawer linings and carcases, complemented by brass handles and glass mirrors.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional wood shrinkage, original mercury-backed or older plate glass mirrors with minor oxidisation, and solid timber construction without modern fasteners.

An antique dressing table works effectively as a characterful focal point in a modern bedroom, or repurposed as a compact desk in a living space, balanced by contemporary minimalist seating and lighting.

Maintain antique mahogany by avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, keeping it away from heat sources to avoid wood splitting, and periodically applying quality beeswax while avoiding silicone-based polishes.
