Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1820, is characterised by classical proportions, clean architectural lines, and the influence of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs. Pieces from this era often feature rich timbers like mahogany or rosewood, sometimes accented with brass inlay or gilt mounts.

Cabinetmakers of this period predominantly used solid mahogany and mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods like pine or oak. Construction features typically include hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes, solid brass drawer pulls or knobs, and pegged joinery.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction details such as hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage patterns, and the presence of period-appropriate fixings like brass locks and turnings. Original backboards, hand-planed drawer bottoms, and natural wax patination also indicate age.

Pairing a dark wood antique chest with minimalist modern art and neutral surroundings creates a balanced, sophisticated contrast. The piece can serve as a focal point in a living room, hallway, or bedroom, topped with simple ceramic or metallic objects.

Maintain the timber by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from direct heat sources to prevent veneer cracking or fading. Clean regularly with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally nourish the wood with traditional beeswax, avoiding modern silicone-based polishes.
